A LETTER

I wish you were still here,
but I would not wish you back
for fear of losing you again.

Next time my grief may not be so kind.

In a way, I feel like you have never left,
for you are so much a part of me,
so much a part of my thoughts.

I am writing about you again
in my Personal Nonfiction class.

I know you will be pleased.

So here is my effort
to continue the conversation with you,
to invite you into my life
even as you have left it.

So sit still, okay?

Don't go away.

I need you here.
